What makes are our turkeys so great?

All of our turkeys are free range, slow grown and locally sourced. Since the early 1800s, the Frederick family have been farming. In 1937 the family started up at Temple Farm, Roydon. For the last 50 years, they have been specialising in the farming of Christmas turkeys and the same great standards are adhered to. Many of the birds are Kelly “Farmgate Hatchery” birds, including the renowned “Kelly Bronze” strain, and they are exceptionally well reared. The birds are fed using natural cereal-rich food without any antibiotics or growth promotion additives. Coupling both the bird breed, and the rearing technique means when the birds rear full maturity they have a natural fat layer and marbling of the meat. This ensures they are easy to cook, give exceptional flavour and a succulence that is unrivalled by any commercially grown bird.

As a result, the white and bronze feathered free-range Christmas turkeys have built an excellent reputation nationally. The white free-range whole turkey won the maximum possible – 3 stars in the 2018 Great Taste Awards. Of 12,634 food and drink items entered, 3-star awards are only given to 1.5% of products each year. In addition, the Whole Free Range White Turkey was nominated for the prestigious “Golden Fork” awards and will be judged by the Guild of Fine Food.

3 stars are only given to exceptional products – trust us, it won't disappoint!

Who knows – there might be snow again this Christmas!

Traditional Farmfresh Turkey Association (TFTA) certified

Temple Farm is part of the Traditional Farmfresh Turkey Association (TFTA), meaning they only produce “Golden Turkeys” that are raised to strict growing standards in a traditional way. They are dry-plucked by hand and game-hung for a minimum of 7 days to ensure natural flavour and texture.
